Jessica K. Hairston, MD, FAPA, is a board-certified psychiatrist at Cognitive Psychiatry of Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, specializing in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry.

Dr. Hairston has over two decades of experience in psychotherapy, including life coaching, Satir family therapy, mantra meditation, and nonviolent communication. She has a wealth of experience working with trauma survivors, patients with mood and anxiety disorders, and both children and adults with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Dr. Hairston believes that patients can expect happiness and relief from suffering through meeting the needs of body, mind, and soul. She helps people reclaim their personal power and sense of self through her work, integrating holistic lifestyle changes for greater empathy, balance, and synergy. Dr. Hairston also believes in the value of supplemental therapies such as yoga, exercise, nutrition, essential oils, and empathy training.

A native of North Carolina, Dr. Hairston studied at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, for her undergraduate degree, then went on to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Medicine for her doctorate degree. She completed her adult psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, followed by a fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Baton Rouge.

Since 2008, Dr. Hairston has been board certified as both a child and adolescent psychiatrist and adult psychiatrist. She is also a member of the North Carolina Psychiatric Association and the Association of Women Psychiatrists, as well as a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
